The House Ethics and Oversight Committee voted Wednesday to investigate whether the estate of cat-hating former Vice President Joe Biden had an inappropriate relationship with a woman who lived in the home and who was a frequent visitor.
The vote to probe the relationship between the woman and the house’s longtime resident, who was never formally identified, came after the panel released a report concluding the relationship was not abusive.
The woman, who said she had been “stunned” by the findings, is suing Biden’s former wife for emotional and financial harm.
The Biden family’s attorneys have asked the court to dismiss the suit.
The House Ethics Commission will hold its final public hearing Wednesday on whether the committee should investigate the relationship.
The probe was prompted by a complaint from a former resident who said Biden visited the house in 2014, when he was serving as Biden’s vice presidential running mate.
He said he saw the vice president “stalked and petted” her and her cat, and that he was repeatedly shown pornographic videos and pictures of his genitals, including one that showed a man in a bathtub.
Biden, in a statement released Wednesday, said he had never sexually harassed anyone.
